Winter Challenge
The Winter Challenge, as part of the Civic Club Pilot Program, inspires civic clubs to take action on community issues through creative, collaborative, and impactful activities. By building their club’s social media presence, exploring local challenges like climate change, organizing awareness sessions, and designing solutions for community problems, students develop leadership, problem-solving, and civic engagement skills. This initiative empowers youth to become changemakers in their schools and neighborhoods.
The goal of this challenge is to create or enhance your club's presence on social media to connect with your community and showcase your activities.
1. Use both these Platforms:
Facebook: Ideal for detailed posts, event announcements, and connecting with community members.
Instagram: Best for sharing visual content like photos and reels.
2. Create an Account/Page on Facebook:
Step 1: Log In or Sign Up
Go to www.facebook.com.
If you already have an account, log in. Otherwise, sign up using your email address or phone number.
Step 2: Create a Page
Click the menu (≡) and select "Pages" under the "Create" section.
Click "Create New Page".
Step 3: Set Up Your Page
Page Name: Use your club's official name (e.g., “Civic Club – [School Name]”).
Category: Select a category like "Community Organization" or "Education."
Description: Write a short description of your club’s purpose.
Step 4: Customize Your Page
Profile Picture: Upload your club’s logo or a relevant image.
Cover Photo: Use a photo of your club members or an engaging visual representing your mission.
Step 5: Publish Your Page
Click "Create Page" to finalize.
Start posting updates to engage your audience!
3. Create an Account/Page on Instagram:
Step 1: Download the App or Use a Browser
Install the Instagram app from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android), or visit www.instagram.com.
Step 2: Sign Up or Log In
Sign up using your club’s email address or phone number.
Choose a username that reflects your club (e.g., @CivicClub_[SchoolName]).
Step 3: Set Up Your Profile
Profile Picture: Add a logo or meaningful club image.
Bio: Write a short description of your club, including its goals and hashtag (e.g., #CivicClubKarachi).
Step 4: Post Your First Update
Tap the "+" icon and select "Post."
Upload a photo or graphic of your first meeting or club logo.
Write a caption introducing your club and its mission.
4. Plan Your First Post:
Your first post should introduce your club. Here’s a suggested structure:
A photo of the first club meeting with the club’s leadership and the focal person
Example Caption:
"Welcome to Civic Club – [School Name]! We're excited to begin our journey of civic engagement. Here's a glimpse of our first meeting. Stay tuned for updates! #CivicClub #MakingADifference"
5. Engage Your Audience:
Share the page/account with club members, staff, and friends.
Encourage them to like, follow, and comment.
Respond to comments to build engagement.
6. Submission:
When posting, tag @hyphen.rc1 on Instagram and Hyphen Resource Centre on Facebook.
Challenge 1: Establish Your Club’s Social Media Presence
Challenge 2: Capturing Karachi
This activity invites you to explore climate change issues in Karachi while celebrating the city’s unique identity. Open to individuals from each school, all participants will receive a certificate, and the winner will be awarded a voucher worth Rs. 1,000.
Option 1: Submit a Picture
Choose Your Subject:
Focus on a visible climate change issue in Karachi.
Capture the Photo:
Use any device (smartphone or camera).
Make sure the picture is clear, tells a story, and reflects the issue.
Write a Caption:
Describe the issue in 1–2 sentences.
Option 2: Submit a Short Story
Reflect on Karachi:
Think about how climate change affects life in Karachi.
Write Your Story:
Write a short story (150–250 words) that expresses a climate change issue in Karachi.

Participation Certificate: Awarded to all participants for their effort.
Winner’s Prizes: Two Rs. 1,000 vouchers will be awarded — one for the most creative and inspiring photo entry and one for the most creative and inspiring short story entry.
Challenge 3: Organize a Club Networking Meeting
This challenge involves calling a meeting of club members to reflect on the club's purpose, envision its future. Participants will use a provided template to guide their discussion.
1. Schedule the Meeting:

Choose a convenient time for club members and leaders.
Allocate 60–90 minutes for a productive discussion.
Arrange a Venue:
Use a classroom, library, or any quiet school space.
If virtual, select platforms like Zoom or Google Meet.

Use the ready-made presentation on waste management to raise awareness.
The presentation includes slides, a script, and supporting materials. Topics covered include:

Option 2: Create Your Own Topic and Content
Pick a topic relevant to your local community. Broader categories include:

Use spaces like a classroom, schoolyard, or any available area.
Schedule the session during a free period, recess, or after school.
Invite a Speaker or Presenter:
A teacher, senior student, or knowledgeable community member can present.
If no external speaker is available, a club member can use the provided materials to lead the session.
Prepare Materials:
For the waste management presentation: Print slides or use a digital device to display them.
For your topic: Create posters or use chart paper and write key points.

Use simple handwritten posters or word-of-mouth to invite students.
